Depending on where you are flying in from you may fly over the Bay of Zihuatanejo. The first thing you notice is the bay is a true horseshoe bay with golden sand beaches and crystal blue waters. There are five main beaches on the bay buy my favorite is Playa la Ropa.
Playa la Ropa is in the center of the bay with some of the best views of the Zihuatanejo area. The easiest access to Playa la Ropa is through Restaurant La Perla. La Perla always has fresh food and great drinks at very reasonable prices. The menu features mostly Mexican seafood that is freshly made to order. La Perla also has tables and chairs on the beach that are rented for a small fee for your entire visit.
In this area of the bay there are spa tents that offer messages, facials and manicure services. The tent is set up with dividers to make for private areas for services. I will be honest I don’t know how you would have nails painted on a sandy beach without messing up the polish. I have traveled the world and the best massage I have ever had is from the tent to the left of La Perla. They will also come to your hotel or vacation rental for an extra fee should you want the service in a private setting in air conditioning.
Watersports are plentiful on the bay. Parasailing over the bay is an opportunity not to be missed. Solo or with a friend the views area majestic. The trip is about ten minutes flying you high over the entire inner bay area. You see the boutique hotels and privates that dot the mountains that surround the Zihuatanejo Bay. They has tubing and water banana ride for the kiddos to enjoy. Personal watercraft are available to rent by the half hour from the beach as well.
While sitting on the beach some of the hardest working people will approach you selling an array of clothing, jewelry, homemade snacks and souvenirs. Most of these vendors carry 30 to 50 pounds of good walking in the sand under the hot sun all day. The items range from a cute pair of real silver earrings to hand craved wooden statues. The fired bananas from the pretty girl are not to missed. The “Cheese Guy” with the white bucket is some of the best homemade Oaxaca cheese. The cheese is a dry string cheese rolled in a ball, and it is the best!
If you just want to sit back on a nice beach and enjoy the day, there is no place better than Playa La Ropa on Zihuatanejo Bay.
